Werner Herzog's blazing, otherworldly and controversial vision of post-war Kuwait sweeps through ravaged oil fields in a sea of fire. The German auteur never identifies the landscape, creating a portrait of a war that could be anywhere, at any time. Set to compositions by Wagner, Verdi, and Mahler, Herzog called it "a requiem for a planet that we ourselves have destroyed."
